Learning Safari was founded by Kelly Spanos, B.S.Ed., CCDT, a certified dog trainer and educator with more than 20 years of teaching experience. Her background includes public school teaching, humane education, and coordinating therapy dog training, where she helps people and animals develop the skills needed to work together successfully.

Kelly brings her educational experience to dog training, helping people understand canine body language, build practical skills, and establish clear expectations and consistent boundaries. Through positive, play-based training, she helps dogs and their people learn together and build stronger, more rewarding relationships.

Outside of work, Kelly enjoys training and competing in Treibball and Agility with her three dogs, Duncan, Cash, and Silas. As a puppy, Silas is still learning the foundations of good manners, confidence, and teamwork through positive training. Working with him is a daily reminder that learning takes patience, consistency, and plenty of opportunities to play and grow together. Kelly is also an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator.

Kelly believes learning is a lifelong journey for both dogs and their people. That’s why she created Learning Safari memberships—to give teams opportunities to continue building skills, enjoy new activities, and connect with other dog lovers along the way. Because training isn’t just about reaching a goal; it’s about continuing to learn, have fun, and grow together.

Why Positive Science-Based Training?

At Learning Safari, we believe learning should be fun, rewarding, and built on trust. Through positive, play-based training, we help dogs develop confidence, learn practical skills, and become well-mannered companions.

Our approach combines rewards and encouragement with clear expectations, consistent boundaries, and guidance to help dogs understand what’s expected of them. We also empower people to better understand canine body language, recognize their dog’s needs, and communicate more effectively. By teaching both dogs and their people, we build better behavior, stronger relationships, and greater confidence in everyday life.
